Reservations are compulsory; they are available free of charge at train stations in Poland. Outside Poland they cost the standard reservation fare (3 - 4,50€)
You can enter the train without a reservation, the on-board fee is 10 PLN.
If a train is fully booked you can still go on the train without a reservation but wont have a seat.

Note: the given prices may vary due to service or handling fees. Depending on whether you purchase the reservations/tickets online, at a ticket machine or at a railway station.
Buy the reservation at a railway station. Note: in some countries you have to pay a service fee at the ticket counter. The reservation can be purchased at a station in the country of departure, often as well in other countries.
